As a member of Green Power EMC, Central Georgia EMC utilizes electricity generated from biomass; specifically methane gas reclaimed from the Taylor County and Roberts Road landfills. Landfill gas comes from the natural breakdown of wastes at the landfill site. The gas is collected and used to generate electricity. Typically the gas is wasted; in most landfills the gas is just burned off to prevent explosions.
Green power can be purchased for only $4.50 per month (which is added to your electric bill). Green power is available in "blocks" of 150 kilowatt-hours, enough to operate a refrigerator for one month. Click here for price, terms, and conditions.
Georgia EMCs were the first in Georgia to invite our members to choose how some of their electricity is produced. Through Green Power EMC, Central Georgia EMC, along with 37 other EMCs in Georgia, offers members the opportunity to support cleaner, renewable energy to supply a portion of their electric needs.

Sun Power for Schools
Green Power EMC is also giving something back to the community. Part of the cost of each green power kilowatt-hour generated goes into a research and development fund, a portion of which has been used to fund the Sun Power for Schools program. Through the program, participating schools around the state will receive photovoltaic and metering equipment that will enable students to study solar power generation and incorporate their unit's output data in classroom projects.
