Smart homeowners want to get the most value from their energy dollar. One way to increase the comfort of your home while potentially saving money is to make energy efficiency improvements.
To make this process easier, Central Georgia EMC has partnered with GEMC Federal Credit Union to offer you a fast and economical way to finance your energy efficient home improvements through the HomePlus Energy Improvement Loan program. This program allows on-bill financing of your recommended energy efficient home improvements.
How Do I get started improving my home?
First determine the improvements you want to make to your home.
Central Georgia EMC will assist you with your energy improvement planning. We will come to your home, perform a visual inspection, and recommend ways to improve your home’s efficiency. We can show you specific ways to reduce your energy consumption to help lower your monthly electric bill. Your energy planning considerations should include: (1) the energy efficiency of your home's structure; (2) the equipment and appliances used; and (3) the lifestyle habits of the family.

You may finance all EMC approved energy upgrades with the GEMC FCU HomePlus Loan. After you have determined the improvements you want to make to your home, you will need to obtain an estimate of your home energy upgrades.
After studying the suggested investment option(s), if you are interested in pursuing a HomePlus Energy Improvement Loan, here is what you will need to do:
- Fill out online application and submit the application to GEMCFCU .
- Wait for approval of the loan. Do not begin any work until loan is approved
- Obtain an estimate from your licensed and insured contractor*
- Contact Central Georgia EMC with bids and contractor information for approval
- After work is completed, CGEMC must be contacted to inspect the work
*Contractor must have a signed Master Contractor Agreement on file with CGEMC. If you choose a contractor that is not included on the licensed and insured contractor list, the contractor must sign our agreement in order to participate in the program.

How and when are my contractors paid?
Central Georgia EMC will verify the completion of your home improvements. You will then sign your loan documents and the check will be made payable to the contractor and you.
How will I make my loan payment?
Your monthly loan payment will appear on your Central Georgia EMC bill and will be applied to your HomePlus Loan or you may choose to pay by automatic draft with Georgia EMC Credit Union.
