In Case of an Outage
Most often power interruptions occur because of severe weather conditions, trees, traffic accidents, animals, power supply, and other uncontrollable circumstances. When your electric service is interrupted, CGEMC’s professional and experienced crews are trained to restore service as fast as possible.
If your power goes off:
- Check your main electrical panel to see if a fuse has blown or a breaker has tripped.
- If the problem is not in your main panel, call a neighbor to determine if other homes in your area are affected.
- Keep your refrigerator and freezer closed. Food should keep for up to 48 hours.
- Stay away from power lines on the ground. Do not attempt to remove trees or limbs from lines. That’s our job!
- If the problem is not within your home’s wiring or if several homes are involved, then call CGEMC at (770) 775-7857 or 1-800-222-4877. We have personnel to serve you seven days a week, 24 hours a day, including holidays.
Quick Tips During an Outage
- Keep your refrigerator and freezer closed. According to the Extension Service, food should keep up to 48 hours. If the outage should persist, arrangements should be made to store food at another location or dry ice should be purchased.
- Stay away from power lines on the ground. Do not attempt to move trees or limbs from lines. That’s our job!
- If someone in the home is dependent on life-support equipment (example: oxygen, respirator, infant heart monitor), do not wait until an outage to notify us of these circumstances. Furnish us with a letter from your doctor on his/her letterhead by FAX or mail. These residences are given priority, if circumstances permit, when services are reconnected. When this type of equipment is in use full-time a generator may need to be considered. Also, when farm equipment is in use and is dependent on electricity, a generator should be considered to supplement during outages.
